Impact of
land-use changes on plant and insect communities Semi-natural
habitats are
increasingly altered by agricultural transformation. My
research interest in conservation biology lies in investigating the
landscape
ecology of insects and plants in managed landscapes. I am mainly
interested
in how land use, landscape structure, and conservation efforts affect
plant and
insect communities and the ecosystem services they provide at multiple-spatial scales

Species-elevation
relationship The abiotic and biotic gradients on mountains
have enormous potential to improve our understanding of population dynamics, species
distributions, and diversity patterns. I am using elevation gradients to investigate
the processes driving native extinctions, alien invasions, and the associated diversity
patterns of plants in the Alps.

Global
change and biological invasions Biological
invasions are gaining attention as a major threat to biodiversity and
an
important element of global change. My primary
research interest in invasion biology relates to the understanding of
the large-scale
drivers of invasions of alien plants and insects, assessing the
subsequent consequences for natural and managed ecosystems and
developing tools
to help prevention or management

![]() | Population dynamics of forest insects under climate change Climate change may have profound effects on insects that cause widespread tree mortality and have significant ecological and economic impacts on forest ecosystems. My goal is to improve our understanding of how climatic factors and density dependent feedbacks influence the risk of defoliating lepidopteran and bark beetle outbreaks. |
